Jerry was born to Jim and Belle Huckins in Yoncalla, Oregon. He joined an older brother in the family and then was blessed to help welcome a younger sister and brother. His family moved around often during his formative years, so Jerry was able to experience life in many areas of Oregon.
Jerry loved the outdoors and spent many happy years camping, hiking, and fishing all around Oregon with an occasional trip out of state. He loved to document these outings through his photography so that he could share the beauty of God's creation with those around him.
He also loved music. He sang in many of the churches he attended throughout the years as a soloist, a member of the choir, and a member of men's quartets. He played numerous stringed instruments and for many years shared his musical talents with residents in assisted living centers around the Bend and LaPine area. Even when dementia stole most of his memories, he could still be heard humming and singing parts of his favorite old songs.
Most of Jerry's working years were spent with the Weyerhaeuser Company in their Springfield, Bly, and Klamath Falls locations. The office at the Springfield location is where he met his wife, Barbara. He retired in 1984 to better enjoy his hobbies and travels.
Jerry is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Barbara; son Don (Debbie) Huckins of Puyallup, Washington; son Ken of Klamath Falls, Oregon; son David (Shelley) Huckins of Bend, Oregon; and daughter Ann (Dave) Stoker of Turner, Oregon; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Georgia (Jay) Hoffman and brother Gerald (Maxine) Huckins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clem, son Steve, granddaughter Christine, and great-grandson Jonah.
There will be an Open House Celebration of Life Luncheon from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Turner Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
