Jerry Clarence Knoerr, age 85, of Pewaukee, WI was called to his heavenly home on August 28, 2022 following a stroke.
Jerry was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 31, 1937, to Clarence and Manette (Giese) Knoerr and was raised in a loving Christian home where his parents always welcomed family and friends with delicious home-cooked meals, desserts, and conversation. During his teenage years, he played trumpet in the Pulaski High School band, made lifelong friends at Oklahoma Avenue Lutheran Church, and enjoyed camping, boating, and water skiing with his family. Following graduation, Jerry attended Valparaiso University where he majored in electrical engineering. While there, he went on a blind date with a girl from Milwaukee named Judy Voigt who proved to be his love of a lifetime. They graduated from Valparaiso in 1962 and were married on August 11, 1962. This past August 11th, they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Jerry and Judy were blessed with three children, James (Kelley), Jill (Daniel) Gutenberger, Julie, (Andrew) Trochlell as well as 5 grandchildren, Emily Knoerr, Sara Knoerr, Gretchen Gutenberger, Peter Gutenberger, and Adalyn Trochlell. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Julie, and many loving relatives and friends.
After graduating from Valpo, he worked as an electrical engineer at Cutler Hammer in Milwaukee. A few years later, Jerry s dad asked him to join him at Knoerr & Fischer, Inc., Electrical Contractors and Engineers, the company which Jerry s grandfather had started in 1906. Jerry worked with his dad there until his dad s death in 1976 and continued as president until 2004. He loved working in the electrical industry and dedicated himself to his work. He was past president of the Illuminating Engineering Society, member of Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers, National Electrical Contractors Association, American Institute of Plant Engineers, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, Rotary Club, Toastmasters, the Martin Club, and ARM.
Jerry and Judy lived in Brookfield with their family for 37 years and were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. For approximately 25 years, Jerry & Judy regularly played sheepshead with a group of wonderful Brookfield friends. The family became avid campers and had many memorable camping trips. Their favorite camp was LuWiSoMo where they spent many weekends and were often joined by other Immanuel families and friends.
For a number of years, Jerry and Judy were snowbirds in Sun City West, AZ where they especially loved the warm weather but also enjoyed the many clubs and activities available to them. Jerry appreciated all that he learned through the genealogy, computer, and photography clubs. During their time there, they loved traveling to many of the National Parks located in the south and west, always marveling at God s beautiful creation.
In 2001 they purchased a small home on Pike Lake. Jerry always said that it was like going on vacation and not having to go back home. Both they and their family loved pontoon rides around the lake and appreciating the peace and beauty of the lake.
In 2013, they sold both their lake home and their AZ condo and moved to a condo in Pewaukee. It was nice to return to Immanuel and continue membership there and renew friendships from years past. Upon their retirement, Jerry and two of his childhood friends also began getting together for lunches and adventures on a regular basis calling themselves The Three Amigos. What fun they had and how wonderful to spend time together again.
In January 2022, Jerry moved to Elaine s Hope Memory Care Assisted Living and found it to be a wonderful and caring community that offered him many enjoyable activities that filled his days. The family acknowledges with great thanks the caregivers and other staff at Elaine s Hope Memory Care Assisted Living where Jerry received and enjoyed their care during the last seven months of his life.
Memorial Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 13445 Hampton Rd., Brookfield on Sat., Sep. 17 at 11 AM. Visitation for family and friends at the church from 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Church or Elaine's Hope Lutheran Home Memory Care.
