Jerry Martinez was born on July 19, 1951, in Dallas, Texas. He was the son of parents, Gonzalo and Josefina Martinez. He went to be with our lord and passed peacefully on the evening of January 5, 2025, in Dallas, Texas with his devoted wife by his side.
Jerry grew up in West Dallas and went to Crozier Tech. After high school, Jerry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy starting in 1970, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment. He served on USS Vogelgesang, and was honorably discharged in 1974. He carried the same dedication throughout his life, becoming a source of strength and inspiration for his family and all who knew him. After serving his military career, he continued to work in the public sector with Dallas Area Rapid Transit System for over 40 years as a Transportation Manager.
Jerry was a skilled craftsman in wood working and especially enjoyed refurbishing furniture. He also spent much of his time in the garage tooling around. He had a deep passion for working on cars and trucks. He was a jack of all trades.
He married his first love, Esmeralda, on October 15, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. They relished in rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and spending time together. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Esmeralda; his mother, Josefina; siblings, Alice, Mary, Esther, David, Delia, Daniel; children, Christopher, Marina, Gabriela, and Javier; stepchildren, Cindy, Melissa, and Louis. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild: proceeded by death of his dad, Gonzalo and sister, Christina.
Jerry was known for his unwavering love for his family, his warm sense of humor, and his steadfast support for those he cared about. Everyone knew him as someone that always had a smile on his face. His life was a testament to kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family.
