The family of Jerry L. Maxcy, Sr. is sad to announce that their beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on June 28th, 2024.
Jerry was born December 15, 1941, in Brazil, Indiana. At an early age, Jerry and his family relocated to Mississippi, which soon became "home" to Jerry. After graduating from John Rundle High School in Grenada, Mississippi, Jerry earned a bachelor's degree in business from Delta State University, where he ran track, and went on to earn an MBA from Mississippi College.
Jerry enjoyed a long, productive career with the global pharmaceutical firm Bristol-Myers. He was a gifted manager and a dedicated mentor to all who worked alongside him.
Jerry and his loving wife Casey were married in 1982. Throughout their forty-two-year marriage, Jerry and Casey traveled extensively, and Jerry developed a fondness for Asian culture and art. Their most recent excursion was made just last year when they embarked on a "bucket list" cruise to Alaska. Jerry's love of travel, food (particularly ice cream), and life in general lives on not only in their children but also in their grandchildren, who lovingly referred to Jerry as "Pops."
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and taking care of them. He also loved the Lord and routinely attended Pinelake Church's online Sunday services. Reading and learning from the Bible were a joy to him, and he believed strongly in the power of prayer.
Jerry's hobbies were many and diverse. He loved sailing, college football, storytelling, gardening, spoiling his dachshunds Miso and Marley, and searching for the world's perfect hamburger. He was a force of nature whose engaging personality and whip-smart sense of humor could be relied on to keep his friends, family, and colleagues in stitches. Everyone within his orbit learned from him, and his sound advice and considerable wisdom positively influenced the trajectories of all of his children's lives.
Jerry was predeceased by his father, Claude, his mother, Rosalyn, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Casey; children, Jeff (Karen), Lee, and Nikole Listemaa (Steve); and grandchildren, Kate and Lily. Pops was greatly loved and will be immensely missed by the family and many friends he left behind.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Medical University of South Carolina's MUSC Foundation and designated for the Scleroderma Center Endowment, 18 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29425.
A celebration of life will be held for Jerry on Monday, July 8 at Sebrell Funeral Home at 425 Northpark Drive in
Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the celebration service to follow at 11 a.m.
