Jerry W. McCray, 84, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:15 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2025 at his home.
Jerry was born April 26, 1941, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the son of Hiram and Louise Day McCray. On November 17, 1977, he married Sharon Y. Shelly.
Mr. McCray worked at Cummins Engine Company for 31 years, in his words, "doing nothing" before eventually retiring. He liked to play Euchre and poker. Watching NASCAR and professional football were among some of his favorite things to do in his spare time. Often times, he could be found tinkering in his garage or working on some projects around the house. Jerry will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; children, Tony (Missy) McCray of Georgia, Brent (Teresa) McCray of Columbus, Crystal (Todd) Hanner, also of Georgia; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie Caudill, Lula Mae Gray and brother, Billie Joe McCray.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery in section 62.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
