Jerry McDowell

Jerry Gene McDowell passed away in his hometown of Jefferson, IA on December 27, 2024, at the age of 69. Known for his quick wit and generous heart, Jerry left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Born in Jefferson, IA on May 13, 1955, the son of Donald and Wanda McDowell. Jerry shared a loving partnership with Kathy Davisson. He cherished the times shared with Chris (Denise) Pohl, Greg (Tamara) Davisson, and their children Austin, Andrew, Alison and Abe Pohl; Makayla, Makenzie, and Kameryn Davisson. Jerry was a loving son to Wanda Anderson. He was a devoted brother to Bob (Jeannie) McDowell, Bill (Dannelle) McDowell, and Craig Anderson (special friend Paulette Stampe). His presence will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, whose lives he touched with humor and love.
Jerry's formative years were spent in the classrooms of Jefferson schools. His professional life was marked by a dedicated career at McAtee Tire and an extensive period working in trucking for various businesses and local farmers. His strong work ethic and friendly nature made him a valued employee.
Jerry was a man of many interests. He had a passion for golf and bowling. Animals of all kinds held a special place in Jerry's heart, reflecting his compassionate spirit. He was also an avid player of games and cards.
His memory will be forever held in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Jerry's legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and selflessness.
A Memorial Service will be 10:00 am on Friday, January 3, 2024 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
