Jerry McHaley Obituary

Jerry R. McHaley, 88, a beloved husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, peacefully passed away at his Spencer residence on November 27, 2023. Born on January 7, 1935, in Bloomington, Indiana to Rex and Margaret (Zenor) McHaley. Jerry was a pillar of the Spencer community. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving at the postal office, eventually becoming Postmaster. He was one of the founding members of the Spencer Conservation Club and a recognized member of the Spencer-Owen Community Schools Board. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Gosport Lions Club, and a 50+ year member of the Spencer Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.
Upon retirement, Jerry embraced the joys of life, spending his days on the golf course with family and friends. He and Lucille took annual trips to Canada for fishing, which became a cherished tradition, providing him with memories and tales he treasured for a lifetime. He took pride in his land and home, always having his family over for the holidays. He was quick to tell a story to whoever would listen, often showing off pictures of his many grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille McHaley, and their three sons: Alan (Cindy) McHaley, Brad (Sue) McHaley, and Mel (Jeanne Withem) McHaley. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Travis (Jane) McHaley, Rex McHaley, Liz (Tommy) Black, Gabriel McHaley, Michael (Allie) McHaley, and Hogan McHaley, as well as two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew McHaley. Jerry is survived by brothers John (Helen) McHaley and Joe (Carol) McHaley.
Jerry''s passing, surrounded by the family that he guided and protected, brings an end to a life well-lived. A celebration of his life will be held at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, Indiana, on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the service at Chambersville Cemetery.
May Jerry R. McHaley rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of service and fond memories.
