Jerry Melcher, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5th, at his home with family after battling stomach cancer.
Jerry was born on February 9th, 1951, in Indianapolis Indiana. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Melcher, as well as his parents Jerry A. Melcher and Barbara M. Melcher. Jerry was a 1969 graduate of Arlington High School.
He began his career with Indiana Bell before joining Reese Wholesale, where he worked in various roles in the roofing materials department until his retirement.
Jerry loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed snow skiing throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching both NASCAR and IndyCar racing, especially the Indianapolis 500. One of his greatest joys was reconnecting with the love of his life, Marsha Ewers, whom he first met in high school. After many years apart, they found each other again later in life and shared many happy years together in retirement. They loved collecting antiques and spending weekends at estate and yard sales. Jerry cherished those adventures with Marsha until her passing of ALS in 2019.
Jerry is survived by his brother Bob Melcher (Vickie), sister Barbara Fultz, nephew Jeremy Melcher, and nieces Brittany Cage (Ryan) and Rebecca Marshall (Terence).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association in Jerry’s memory at www.als.org.
