Jerry Lynn Peterson, 78, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away at home on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Born on April 21, 1947, in Menominee, Michigan, Jerry was the son of Albert Cornelius Peterson and Francis Marie Zivney Peterson. He graduated from Marinette High School in 1966 and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
The luckiest day of Jerry’s life was August 19, 1967, when he married the love of his life, Peggy Bretl. Together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and loyalty. He worked hard to support them over the years, holding positions at Chicago Northwestern Railroad, Montgomery Wards, and St. Vincent Hospital.
Jerry had a zest for life and a heart full of curiosity. He was an avid fisherman, especially fond of perch and walleye. He loved cooking, grilling, and smoking meats — always eager to share a good meal. He had a passion for woodworking and a mischievous interest in the paranormal and the elusive Bigfoot. Animals held a special place in his heart, especially his beloved English Springer Spaniels and all dogs lucky enough to know his gentle hands.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 58 years, Peggy Peterson; his children Angela Peterson (Bruce), Luke Peterson (Krista), Ben Peterson (Sarah), and Maggie Lagodny (Adam); his cherished grandchildren Nehemiah Kraft (Madison), Hannah Nimmer (Joshua), Austin Wilson-Peterson, Lilah Peterson, and Summer Peterson; and his great-grandchildren Peter, Daisy, and Daphne Nimmer. He is also survived by his sister Dawn Kroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Francis Peterson, and his brothers Larry Peterson and Dale Peterson.
Jerry will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of humor, his love of family, and the way he made people feel welcome and valued. He leaves behind a legacy of love, stories, and unforgettable fish tales.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, July 18th. Visitation at 9:00am with a service starting at 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home 340 South Monroe Ave in Green Bay. All are welcome to join the family in honoring his memory.
