Jerry R. Pitman, 88, a resident of Irving for 52 years, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at a local care center. Born April 29, 1930 in Haskell, Texas, he was the son of the late Calvin Pitman and Abbie Lena Thompson Pitman. The family moved to Grand Prairie when he was young. He served in the U. S. Navy Reserve for four years. He married Wanda Louise Walker December 16, 1949. They lived in Lompoc, California in their early years of marriage. They moved to Irving when he began working for General Dynamics and Aerospace for many years before his retirement. He was Baptist.
Preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wallace Pittman and a sister Jean Patton, and his son Michael Lee Pitman in October, he is survived by his wife Wanda; sons, Rev. Jerry P. Pitman, Jr. and wife Martha of Rochester, Indiana and Richard Dale Pitman and wife Evangeline "Helen" of Irving; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Frazier and husband Joseph of Tennessee; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
