Jerry Raymond Raines

Jerry Raymond Raines, 82 years of age, of Oakwood, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at his home. Born June 15, 1943, in Breaks, VA, he was the son of the late John William and Margaret Bailey Raines.

Jerry was a member of Garden Baptist Church for 41years where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Moderator. He was former owner and operator of Jerry's Barber Shop for 57 years until he retired and was a former member of the Buchanan County School Board. He enjoyed beekeeping and was a member of Sandy Valley Lodge #17 and former District Deputy Grand Master. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and a pillar of the community and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Phyllis Loretta Raines, May 7, 2025; sister Dorothy Robbins, Pebble Valentino; brothers Paul Raines, Donald Raines, Oscar Raines, Benny Raines, Howard Raines, Roby Raines; and infant brother Ira Raines.

Survivors include daughter Teresa Lynn Owens and husband William Gregory of Spartanburg, SC; son Patrick Edward Raines and wife Milanda of Spartanburg, SC; sisters Bertha Emerson of Chester, VA, Gracie Wimmer of Narrows, VA, Clara Kindrick of Lexington, KY, Linda Sebra of Hopewell, VA; special sister-in-law Joan Ramey; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jerry Raymond Raines will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Keen Mountain, VA, with Pastor Curtis Crouse, Kemper Bausell and Judy Hagy officiating. Full Masonic Rites will be conducted by Sandy Valley Lodge #17. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Raines, John Raines, Harold Dye, Wade Dye, Ricky Looney and Jerry Vandyke.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday after 6:00 p.m.
