Jerry was always a pleasure to speak to and had a wonderful attitude. Our kids grew up going there and we loved the BBQ. We went there a few times a months for 10 years or so and he will be missed!

Jerry was witty, knowledgeable about so many topics, friendly and I don´t believe we ever had a conversation that didn´t include at least one laugh. We could talk for HOURS on the phone, and that´s saying a lot because I´m not a big fan of long phone calls. It had been awhile, and I wondered how he was doing. I am very saddened to hear he passed. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Sincerely, Beth

I had been going to Pecos Bill's since 1967. My Father and Mother were house hunting. First thing we saw after coming over that bridge from Hollywood was Pecos Bill's and those Horns on the Building. Our Realtor was across the street Next to Clyde's Cyclery. I remember those pictures of those huge fish caught in Santa Monica Bay laminated on counter. Each year harder to see due fading and smoke.I remember the original owners, then Jerry. Always smiling , greetings me heartly. " Oakie Beef Hot was always my order. One year my Mom ordered a pound of Beef to make Tamales. Best Tamales ever. One day he told me Peach wood was the secret for that distinct flavor of the meat. Wish I knew sauce.I would and continue to Ride my bicycle and hike Griffith Park for years, the trip wasn't complete without a visit. I have lived on Lake St. Since 1968.My friend who lost all his teeth would drive from Canyon Country because he didn't need them to eat that Oakie Beef. I was so sad to hear of Jerry's passing. All of my people are gone, things from childhood are disappearing. Jerry and Pecos Bill's is the latest. God bless you and family. I'll never forget those sandwiches, beans and Lemonade..George The King of Burbank.

Heartbreaking. Jerry was always upbeat and a pleasure to chat with as I bought my favorite Okie pork and beef with a side of sauce. I really hope the family can find a way to re-open and carry on the legacy of this little gem.

I've been enjoying Pecos Bill's since 1970... That's the first memory I have of my Dad ( JAMES K. GORDON ) and myself sitting just down the street at the park eating the best bbq pork sandwich in the world... over the past 50 years I have made it a destination whenever I come to town.

Jerry was a incredibly friendly and caring person that will be missed by many.

God Bless you Jerry,

My family had been going to Pecos Bills for decades. Thank you for all the delicious meals and fond memories. Your laughter was infectious and kind welcome will be missed even more than my Oakee Beef sandwich.

You will be missed Jerry. I´ve been eating there since 1957, when I was 2yrs old and my daughter Cheryl since 1997 when she was two and had teeth.
Owen and you would always greet us by name. We will all be headed to that great pit in the sky someday so when you see me, I´ll have a Oki pork, no salt and hot.
God bless.

My deepest condolences to Jerry's family he was such a great guy, I'm 68 years old now and have been going to Pecos Bills since I was about 10, sure wish I knew how to make the sauce, I was born in Henryetta Oklahoma but I never had anything like it anywhere else, everything here was outstanding, ribs were the best I ever ate, will sure miss you and that big smile. Rest in Peace my friend.

So sad! I text Jerry on Thanksgiving! Was driving home from hike with my pup at Griffith Park, and stopped by the bbq place. Saw this info on the front window. Knew Jerry through an anonymous program. Great guy!

I have been going there for many years. I remember Owen always talked about riding our bicycles. Then Owen retired and Jerry was there, and he and I continued to talk about cycling. He always would ask me, "So, how far did you go today, John?" Truly going to miss him and the talks we had..... and of course gonna miss that great BBQ beef sandwich..
R.I.P. Jerry.... Gonna miss you bud.....

My thoughts and best wishes to everyone who knew Jerry. I have been going to the shop since I was a kid. Getting to know Owen and Jerry over the years and enjoying the always friendly chat about sports and just life in general. Jerry had that great smile and always seemed happy. I later found out that we were trudging together along the path of happy destiny. I will miss his good nature and warm hand shake. R.I.P my brother.

Big brother, this will make you laugh...
On my first attempt, this website accepted my simple and customary "Jerry peace sign emoji goodbye". But then it "didn´t compute" so my post showed nothing. So here on my second attempt I will simply spell it out:

We are so sad to hear about Jerry's passing, and sending his friends and family our love. We only wish more people could have had a conversation with him from the Peco's window, and that his contributions to LA food never be forgotten.

I´m so sorry for your loss. Pecos Bill´s was a wonderful little establishment that brought a lot of joy to many people. I will miss it dearly. I´ve lived in Burbank, my whole adult life, and have been visiting this place for eons. This definitely cannot be replaced.

So very sorry to hear that Jerry passed. He was my neighbor in Littlerock, and he was such a good guy.

I am so very saddened by this loss and the loss of an institution on the LA restaurant scene. Jerry was just the nicest man. My father, who also passed this year, used to take me to Pecos Bill's regularly as a child and I passed the love down to my own children. My father was once there and tripped and fell off the curb and Jerry was right there instantly to help and ensure he was ok and provided water and first aid and kindness to a very prideful man who was more embarrassed than hurt. I can never express my appreciation enough for the wonderful person you were Jerry! We will certainly miss you and your smiling presence.

Hey there Richard, yeah my phone took a dump, still on life support as I look into buying another. Cant justify the price since I dont use all the bells and whistles of most phones and the mid range ones arent stocked much do to chip shortages. Hope you got the pic from Dr Doug last week, he said you sent him by. Thanks for caring dude.

Not much going on here, just waiting for summer to end, we are in for a rough week of 105's. You know , Sept and those pesky 80F 2am nights. hope all is good with you on the rancho.

i am paying bills, running errands, and getting prepared to hunker down for about 5 days of heat brutality. Big batch of cold pasta salad awaiting creation so cooking not a necessity, Maybe even stock up on ice cream.

Peace out my brother
