Jerry Ray Rhodehouse

Jerry Ray Rhodehouse passed away on Feb. 14th, 2025 after complications from surgery. He was born on Sep. 28th, 1940 in Rexburg, Idaho to Beatrice Crofts. When he was 5 his mother remarried and he was adopted by Jesse Rhodehouse.

 He grew up on a potato farm in Egin, Idaho where he devoted all of his early life to working on the family homestead. He learned how to work from a young age, and throughout his life was one of the hardest workers anywhere. As he grew up, he had several different jobs so he could help with the family finances. He was a logger, hauled hay daily to feed thousands of head of cattle for local ranchers, worked in a cheese factory, and was a grease monkey for a service station. He was a member of the National Guard as well, where he was honorably discharged after his service. Eventually he got the opportunity to try for a lineman’s apprenticeship so he left Idaho to pursue it.

 Right after he left Idaho, he met his wife, Liana. Jerry and Liana married on July 3rd 1969, and he promptly moved them to California for work where Liana got to live in the desert while pregnant. He moved the family back to Utah shortly thereafter and he was able to start his apprenticeship program with Utah Power and Light.

 This became the greatest blessing in Jerry’s work life. He joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 57 and was a devoted member his entire life. He was the local rep for IBEW for years. He worked for UP&L for decades until he took an early retirement from them. He then worked for Wasatch and then Sturgeon before mostly retiring for good. He couldn’t stay away from his brothers and sisters at IBEW for long though, as he took up a position teaching at the apprenticeship school until COVID shut it down in 2020, and he quit working for good.

 Jerry loved his kids, but he adored his grandchildren. Jerry got no greater joy than being around his grandkids watching their sporting events, programs, and simply playing. They were the light of his life. 

 He also loved the mountains. Hunting, camping, and fishing were some of his joys. He built a family cabin in the Uinta’s because he wanted to combine his passion for the outdoors, with his love for being around his family. He’s built a legacy that none of us left behind will ever forget. 

 He’s survived by his wife Liana, his children Stacie (Mike), Justin (Lana), Jeremy; grandchildren Braxton (Stef), Corbin (Lynette), Trek, Dru (Vince), Damon, Zeb (Sadie), Hunter; and great-grandchildren Taisley, Asher, Ava, Zeni, and Zaia.

 There will be a Celebration of life when the weather is warmer. Jerry always said he was tired of the cold.
