Jerry Dale Smith, 80, of Newport, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was born on January 30, 1945, in Grubbs, Arkansas, to Charlie and Daisy (London) Smith.

Jerry spent his working years as an auto worker for General Motors, where he was known for his dedication and steady work ethic. Outside of work, he found great joy in the outdoors and in the company of his family. Duck hunting with his children was one of his favorite pastimes, and he cherished those moments spent together in nature. He also enjoyed fishing and running trout lines, hobbies that brought him peace and satisfaction.

In addition, Jerry had a love for working with his hands. Whether repairing vehicles or mowing and tending his lawn, he found fulfillment in the simple, everyday tasks that made up his life. His ability to fix things and his commitment to keeping a neat yard reflected both his practicality and his pride in his home.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Nathan Smith and Boyd Smith; his sisters, Ruby Mae Ballard and Myrtle Inez Jones; and his wife of fifty-six years, Marsha Smith, whom he deeply loved.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories that his family will hold close to their hearts.

He is survived by his sons, Andy Smith (Tracy) of Grubbs and Jerry Dale Smith Jr. (Pam) of Lake City; his grandchildren, Tyler Smith (Brittney) of Bay, Nolan Smith of Jonesboro, Haley Busby (Frankie) of Forrest City, Ashley Smith of Hickory Ridge, Emalee Smith of Hickory Ridge, and Natalie Rodriguez of Jonesboro; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Ballew's Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Shawn McLahanon officiating.
