A Man to Remember

Jerry A. Van Dam, age 85, of Leesburg, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, with family by his side. We know he's in a better place, yet we miss him more than words can express.

Jerry had a way of lifting up those around him. His humor and storytelling, warm smile and big heart, and eagerness to lend a hand (or a tool) made you want to strive to be a better person. He endured multiple long-term illnesses without complaint, trading jokes with caregivers in his last days.

A nature-lover, Jerry expressed almost childlike excitement when reeling in fish, spotting backyard birds or just watching nature programs. He enjoyed collecting rocks, polishing them, admiring their beauty. A particular joy was sharing the outdoors with his sons and grandsons-camping, fishing and hunting. He instilled in them a deep respect for the natural world.

Though he enjoyed traveling, it was the routine of daily life that seemed to bring Jerry the most pleasure - going to coffee with his buddies, puttering in his shop, and relaxing in his recliner with a supply of snacks. His loved ones meant the world to him, and he looked forward to family gatherings.

Born in Michigan, he spent most of his life in Central Florida, from Longwood to Kissimmee, finally settling in Leesburg. A natural salesman who relished connecting one-on-one with people, Jerry's good listening skills and effortless conversation helped him successfully sell everything from newspaper ads to cars and steel buildings. In all areas of life, Jerry acted with the highest honesty and integrity.

Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife Ginny of 38 years, his son Joe (Dyann), daughter Sandi (Bob), grandsons Will and Bradley, sisters Joan and Judy (Duane), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ruth and Abraham, brother Jim and son Jim. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares FL, 32778.
