Jerry D. Wolf
BILLINGS - Jerry was a man of deep feeling and devoted attachment to the people and places he loved, as well as to his favorite pastimes of skiing, golf, hunting and fishing, dancing, and sharing good food and conversation with friends and family.
Born in a small North Dakota town, Jerry's upbringing was especially influenced by his loving parents and four siblings, sports (football and boxing), summertime farm work, and the Lutheran church.
After high school, Jerry attended Wartburg College in Iowa, with his sights on becoming a Lutheran Minister.
When funds were gone, he enlisted in the Army, which took him to Fort Carson in Colorado. He did duty at the 10th Mountain Division on the Continental Divide, where he first fell in love with skiing.
Afterward, Jerry began his education in medicine at UND/Grand Forks. His last years of medical school were at the University of Nebraska/Omaha.
Jerry met Janice Porter at UND in 1958, and describes the meeting as love at first sight. They eloped in July 1959, and enjoyed a happy life of adventure, family, and community for 64 years. She remained the constant love of his life. Their children arrived quickly: Kimberly in 1960, Michelle in 1961, and Jerry, Jr. in 1963.
His first medical position was in General Practice in Bottineau, ND, followed by a Radiology residency at the University of Colorado/Denver. Radiology brought the family to Billings in 1970.
Jerry loved to rave about Montana as "God's Country." He remained dedicated to the Billings Clinic long after his retirement in 1997, was an active member of Hilands Golf Club for over 50 years, and supported a range of faith, political, and social service organizations.
Jerry is survived by wife, Jan; two children: Michelle Wolf (Klaus Holzapfel) and Jerry Wolf (Tara); and five grandchildren: Jeremy Wolf (Shawna), Jessica Wolf-Hallgrimson (Karl Hallgrimson), Joshua Phillips, Gabriel Phillips, and Hamish Wolf. Their oldest daughter, Kimberly Wolf, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will take place Friday, February 2, 2024 11:00 a.m. at Joy Lutheran Church (at Billings Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3200 Broadwater Avenue). A burial ceremony will follow at Yellowstone National Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Road in Laurel.

Jan and family,
Have many fond memories of working with Jerry at the "Deac". Having grown up in NE Montana (near ND), I loved his down home spirit. I remember one patient who we walk up and down the hallway to exercise his knee as we all same a German song - Mein Hut - he had a great laugh and I enjoyed seeing him in these later years only to find he had not changed a bit! I pray your memories bring a smile to your face between the waves of grief as you adjust to life without Jerry. Blessings to you all!

Jerry (as I always addressed him as Dr Wolf) was such a delightful man to know and work with. I worked in Radiology with him when he first came to Billings at the Billings Clinic and later on as a "neighbor" in RVA. He had a great sense of humor and always asked about my family as a very caring man. He will be missed. My condolence to Jan and his family. With sympathy, Linda Knutson
