During his years at UGA, he met the love of his life, Jean, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Jesse’s career in journalism left a lasting mark in Athens, where he was best known as the former editor of the Athens Daily News and the Banner-Herald. A true storyteller, his words connected people, strengthened the community, and reflected his lifelong passion for truth and communication.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; daughter Cassandra Hewitt (Christopher); grandchildren James (26), Caden (19), and Elijah (14), all of Acworth, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jill Jenkins, in 2012. Following Jill’s passing, Jesse took great comfort in knowing Cassandra lovingly raised James and Elijah, keeping the family’s bond strong.
