Jesse L. Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2007.
Jesse L. Williams'' greatest fear in Iraq were snipers. Bob Blanchard, a family friend and mayor of his hometown, remembered Williams telling him, "I can fight people eye to eye, but I can''t fight back if I can''t see them." Williams, 25, of Santa Rosa, Calif., died April 8 in Balad after a sniper attack. He was assigned to Fort Lewis and was on his second tour. "He saw the white-hot fire of combat on both his tours. He was right there," Blanchard said. "And you know what? That was Jesse, that''s where he wanted to be." Williams won a Purple Heart during his first tour of duty after shrapnel struck his arm during an insurgent clash, and was nominated for a Bronze Star after rescuing two soldiers from a burning vehicle. "It''s sad but we''re all very proud too because he truly lived life to the fullest," said Viki Allan, his stepsister. "He was a rambunctious, go, go, go, go person who questioned everything." Williams also is survived by his wife, Sonya, and their 11-month-old daughter, Amaya. "He grew up to become a man of his word," said his father, Herb Williams. "He was a good man in every sense of the word."

Jesse was an outstanding soldier, a loving father, and my friend. I was very fortunate to have had a friend as amazing as him. Jesse and I were in 3rd and 2nd platoon Bco together. I wish your family the very best and I will always be here if you need anything. Take care and God Bless.

"As a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, former Boy Scout, and friend of Herb Williams and his family, I was honored to take part in the memorial service for Sgt.Jessie Williams in April 2007. The world, and the United States of America, has changed much since I proudly served in the peacetime military, but one thing will never change--the courage, commitment, and heroism of those who are the hardened tip of America's military might. We will always be in their debt and they in our prayers & memory." Jim Johnson (Santa Rosa, CA)

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jesse, but I am remembering his sacrifice.
He is my hero.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Rest In Peace My Brother.
You were one of the best I ever served with. My condolences to your family and I will keep them in my prayers. I know you are in Heaven now doing what you do best watching out for all of us down here. Love ya Bro and you will be missed immensely.

August 14, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

It is hard to put into words what Jesse has meant to me. We meet while attending Santa Rosa High. We played rugby together. My greatest memory of him is, Jesse sticking half his body out of a car window driving down mendocino ave. screaming out "RUGGER" to a group of his rugby brothers he saw. I will always hear the echo. Thank you, Jesse, for being my friend and my brother. May your family be blessed. May our memories stay strong.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To: Jesse's Family and Friends,
Jesse and I knew each other as young innocent kids living in Walton, NY. Though I have not seen or spoken to Jesse in many years, my memmories of our time together are still truly vivid. I remember the first day I met Jesse, he excepted me and my friend instantly as his friends, and of course, I had a huge crush on him like all the girls did when he moved to Walton. He was new, cute, sweet, and so funny. That first second we met that day we were all friends, the day was filled with fun and wonderful laughter. Jesse always knew how to make an afternoon fun whether it was filled with climbing trees, playing tag, or of course hours of NINTENDO. Sadly, those momments are just now only long ago memmories for our friendship faded when he moved back to California. Although, I had not spoken to Jesse in many years I heard of his great success and happiness in life through his mother and step-father. It makes me so happy to hear that Jesse fell in love, married the woman of his dreams, and had a beautiful baby girl. As a child Jesse always dreamed of having a family of his own one day, which all the girls loved I might add. I am not surprised to hear of Jesse being a hero in the military, he was always such a brave child, and always always took care and looked after his friends. I hope that Jesse's family and friends now that he was truly loved through out his whole life, and that even as a child he had a profound effect on his young friends. He will always be in my heart and memmories. God Bless You All

Our Family will never ever forget the Goofball humor that Jesse had. We will never ever forget the camping trips, the going away party we had for both him and Christina when they joined the Army. He was not afraid to be in the Infantry, he was EXCITED. All he wanted to do was make his Dad proud and make a change in his life and stand for something good. He did fufill his dreams and beyond. I know Jesse will always be Amaya's and Sonya's Guardian Angel. I'm so glad he was happy! Thank you Jesse for your memory, your legacy and for making us laugh as often as you did. Thank you for your sacrifice. I believe that you hear all our prayers, you know you are loved and you know you did make everyone proud of you. You grew from a goofball funny boy into a Decorated Hero. Bless you and the Good Men and Women that have fallen and served before you. It is because people like you that our land is free from war on our own soil. God Help us all.Thank you Herb and Sonja for your sacrafice and know that you are held high in prayers. It's the memories that will keep him near you.

April 13, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Herb & Family,
Randy and I are so sorry for the tragic loss of Jesse.
Our sons played Rugby together, and now Jesse and our nephew Jared who was killed in Iraq in February will watch over us together as Heroes and Angels.
Jesse is a Champion, a Savior, who defended us all until he died.
Our support and love is with you now and forever.

The Cord

We are connected my child and I,
by an invisible cord not seen by the eye.
Not like the cord that connects until birth,
This cord can't be seen
by any on earth,
This cord does its work,
right from the start,
It binds us together,
attached to our hearts.
I know its there,
though no one can see,
The invisible cord,
from my child to me.
The strength of this cord,
Is hard to describe
It can't be destroyed
It can't be denied.
Its stronger than any cord man
could create,
It withstands all tests-can hold any weight.
And though you are gone,
though you are not here with me
The cord is still here,
though no one can see.
It pulls at my heart,
I am bruised,
I am sore,
But this cord is my lifeline
As never before.
I am thankful that God
connects us this way
Mother and Child, Father and Child,
death can't take it away.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am to learn of the loss of Staff Sgt. Jesse L. Williams,
The Price this Brave Young Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.

May Jesse rest safely in the Loving Care of God and may the Grace and Comfort of the Lord be with the Williams family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam, in 1967.

"I consider that our present sufferings. are not worth comparing with the glory that shall be revealed in us."
Romans 8:18

May the Peace of God and your precious memories of Jesse, remain in your heart always and give you comfort and strength through the difficult days ahead.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
