Dr. Jesse Anne Lobb, age 73, Kirksville, MO, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the home of her sister, Teresa Walker, in Emory, TX. She was born on August l6, 1952, in Kansas City, MO, the oldest child of Howard and Mary Ellen Lobb. Raised in a Catholic home with seven other siblings, she attended Redemptorist Grade School and stayed there for her first two years of high school until it closed. Jesse graduated from Westport High School, in Kansas City, MO with the Class of 1970. At a young age, she wanted her life to be marked by compassion, dedication, and a profound commitment to the well-being of others.
Upon graduation from high school, she received the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing Scholarship. She enlisted in the Army's Nursing Program at Kansas University for two years, then she transferred to the University of Maryland and Walter Reed Hospital where she graduated in 1974. After four years of active duty, she began her civilian career as a pediatric nurse at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. While in Tennessee she also earned a Master's Degree in Nursing. She also remained active in the Army Reserves for 16 years. She retired as a lieutenant colonel.
In the late 80s, Jesse decided she would go to medical school at age 37 to become a medical doctor! In 1992, she graduated from the University of East Tennessee State Medical School. She chose a Residency in Pediatrics from Johns Hopkins and the University of Tennessee. She was in private practice in Tennessee, Illinois, and Indiana before settling in Kirksville, Mo. as a pediatrician for Northeast Missouri Health Council these last 20 years.
Her dedication to helping children stems from her dynamic Catholic faith that was formed as a member of a large religious family. Her Catholic faith grew through the years of working with children and was exhibited for all to see and appreciate. In recent years, she taught Confirmation classes at Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield, Iowa, and also participated in faith-filled retreats by the Church. Her Catholic faith was the most important guidepost that motivated her as an M.D.
Jesse had an ever-present smile and a naturally giving spirit. She'd offer a helping hand before being asked! People were drawn to her kindness and dependability. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mary Ellen (Topp) Lobb, sister, Amy Lobb, and sister-in-law, Trish Lobb, nephew Matthew Joseph Lobb.
She is survived by three brothers: Joe, Chris (Teresa) and Luke (Julie) of Kansas City and three sisters: Mary Margaret Lobb Draughon (Webb), Seabrook, TX; Teresa Walker (Mark) Emory, TX and Cynthia Paul (Tim) Altamonte Springs, FL. Also, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be on Monday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will follow the rosary until Mass. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Memorials in Jesse's memory may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
