Jesse Delton Porter, a devoted evangelist and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Portland, Tennessee, on February 19, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on May 5, 1926, in Lexington, Alabama, Delton dedicated over 60 years of his life to preaching the gospel of Christ across Middle Tennessee and Kentucky, leaving a profound impact on countless lives through his unwavering faith and teachings.

Delton pursued an education that reflected his commitment to knowledge and service, earning a Bachelor's Degree in History and Economics from Freed Hardeman College, David Lipscomb College, and Florence State Teacher's College. His passion for learning remained a cornerstone of his life, shaping his views and reinforcing his deep-seated belief in the importance of following Christ. He was an avid reader, often found with a Bible in hand.

In addition to his long 60-year career as an evangelist, Delton served in hospital security and maintenance for many years at Highland Hospital in Portland, TN. He embraced the notion of never meeting a stranger, always making time for others in need, and encouraged everyone around him to find joy in service. His volunteer work as an ambulance driver and assisting funeral directors throughout the years brought him great fulfillment and demonstrated his compassionate spirit.

Known for his diverse interests, Delton was an avid bird watcher and found great joy in the art of furniture construction and refinishing. He treasured gardening and spent many hours pursuing his love for hunting, canoeing and fishing. Additionally, he devoted time to visiting the sick and the bereaved, providing comfort and companionship to those in distress.

Delton was proud to be married to his wife, Martha Ann Pollock Porter, for 76 meaningful years. Together, they nurtured a loving family, which includes their son Paul (Becky) Porter and daughters Lisa (Keith) Ward, Amy (Tom) Stephenson, Beth (Murray) Wade, and Laura (Joel) Guyer. He was further blessed by 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who cherished his wisdom and strength.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Porter, his mother, Grace Porter, and his brothers Lindon (Ann), Dwight (Nelda), and Preston (Ann) Porter. His legacy continues through his surviving sister, Myra (Charlie) Barnett, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Delton was also preceded in death by family members who have passed before him, including his son, Philip Porter, and grandson, Adam Porter. His life exemplified the values he preached, marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering faith in God.

Jesse Delton Porter's extraordinary life of service, love, and faith has left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
