Jesse Veach Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wing Mortuary - Lehi on Aug. 4, 2025.
Jesse Clinton Veach, Jr, of Lehi, Utah, and formerly of Minford, Ohio, died on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the age of 96, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 11, 1929, in the small hamlet of South Webster, Ohio. He is one of seven children born to Sadie Marie Waddell and Jesse Clinton Veach, Sr., and learned to have an appreciation of family early in his life. Growing up a "hillbilly" in those rolling hills taught Jesse the value of hard work and a love of the United States, leading him to join the Navy immediately following high school in June of 1946. Although the hostilities had already ceased, the war wasn't officially over until December of that year, which made Jesse a proud WWII veteran. Chief Veach also served in the Vietnam War, working in the Public Affairs Office in Saigon. Jesse attended and received a BFA from Brigham Young University, which he supported for the rest of his life. He was a broadcaster for most of his adult career, working at radio stations such as KOB in Albuquerque, WPAY in Portsmouth, Ohio, and ultimately the operator of KOVO in Provo. His lifelong love of broadcasting and music set an amazing example for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In 1962, Jesse met his sweetheart and future eternal companion, Katy Hall. After a short courtship, they were married in Portsmouth, Ohio, at the All Saints Episcopal Church on April 20, 1963. In 1965, they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed for eternity in 1966 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He had 2 children from a previous marriage: Cynthia Dougherty (William) and Jesse Clinton Veach, III (Virginia). Jesse and Katy have 8 children: Becky Struthers (Phillip), Jennifer Gray (William), Kathy Light (Robert), Steve Veach (Natalie), William Veach (Katie), Susan Elggren (Christian), Julia Lowther (Mark), and Laura Osmond (Jon). Jess and Katy are also the proud grandparents of 53 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. He is survived by his family, loving sister Jean Perry, and was preceded in death by his eldest son, Jesse Clinton Veach III. In 2022, the Chief was thrilled to be a part of the Utah Honor Flight that allowed him to travel to Washington, D.C. with other veterans. As a proud veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 19 in Lehi, Utah. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jesse served in numerous church callings throughout his life, culminating in serving a mission with his wife in Macon, Georgia, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The family would like to thank all of the medical and hospice professionals at Symbii for their loving care and kindness during the last few weeks of his tremendous life. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Wing Mortuary located at 118 East Main Street in Lehi, Utah. An additional viewing will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the North Lake 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 828 South Center Street in Lehi, Utah. Funeral services will be held immediately following at noon. The funeral will also be streamed via the web at https://zoom.us/j/9548670463?pwd=a1BkYjZ2djNySmNsNTNJa25IcjJydz09&omn=92008554851
