Dean Alton Larsen passed away peacefully, March 7, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving wife and children in Lehi. Dean was born Feb. 2, 1936 to Alton L. Larsen and Eona L. Nielsen Larsen in
Ferron, Utah. Dean was the second of four children, brother to Richard Dale, Donna LuJean and Lee Christian.
Dad spent his childhood growing up in Ferron, Logan, Salt Lake City, and Herriman before the family moved to Lehi. He was then entering 7th grade. He became involved in sports, particularly football, plays and friends. School is where he found his sweetheart, Etana Mae Gammon. It was in 7th grade that he saw her sitting across the auditorium and thought, "I'm going to marry that girl!" In high school, Dad and Mom became sweethearts. They graduated from Lehi High School and Lehi Seminary in the spring of 1954. They were married later that year, Dec. 16, 1954 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. The following October brought the first of their five children, Dean, then Kathy, David, Becky and Shirley.
Dad and Mom settled in Lehi. While they were raising their own children, they also brought in three boys through the Indian Placement Program, Leon, Rex and Kirk. Later they would welcome Natasha, from Ukraine, to help with her education. Dad loved all who came through his door and considered them part of his family. He especially loved the little ones and babies. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren are his special delight. He spent many miles and hours supporting and watching them play sports, dance, cheer, act in plays and musical performances.
Family was everything to Dad. He loved going camping, hunting, traveling, and visiting with his kids and grandkids. He loved all their visits, hugs and kisses. To them grandpa was their hero and best friend. The Larsen home and yard was always a common gathering place and a place of love.
Dad held several jobs during his lifetime. In high school he was a lifeguard at the old Saratoga Hot Springs Resort, he worked at a nut company, Lakeside Lime and Stone, sold cars and worked at Geneva Steel in the Coke plant. He eventually got a job at the Tooele Army Depot, where he retired in 2002 after 37 years. He attended trade school at what is now Utah Valley University and served for 31 years in the Utah National Guard. Other activities Dad enjoyed were running, hiking, biking and horse back riding. He was also involved in civic activities and helped form the first cub den in the Lehi Second Ward. He was also an avid BYU fan. He had season tickets and loved going to their games.
Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a disciple of Christ. He served in various callings such as stake missionary, counselor in the 9th Ward bishopric, Young Men's president, and membership clerk in different BYU wards. He really loved the young people and he loved missionaries. Later, he and Mom would serve a mission in the Canada Toronto West Mission, a highlight in their lives. One of his later callings was director of the Lehi Family History Center.
Dean is survived by his wife, Etana, his children, Dean G (Jeri), Kathy Carbine (Dennis), David (Juli), Becky Seewer (Richard), and Shirley Dewey (Lincoln), 16 grandchildren and over 50 great-grandchildren, and his sister Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale and Lee, son-in-law Richard, and daughter-in-law Juli.
Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00AM in the LDS Chapel at 481 East 300 North,
Lehi, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 6:00-8:00PM and prior to the funeral service from 9:30AM-10:30AM in the same location.
Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery.
We would like to express our thanks to our sweet angels, Sara and Julietta, and the staff at Hospice for Utah. We appreciate their love and kind attention towards Dad and our family.
