Jessica Chatles Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Jessica Chatles of Winchester, VA and formerly of Woodbridge Township, NJ, a strong, independent, and deeply loving woman passed away at the age of 88 on August 7th. Known for her unwavering determination, generous heart, and tireless work ethic, she touched countless lives with her warmth, creativity, and fierce devotion to family.
Born in New York City on May 19, Jessie lived a life full of passion and purpose. She found joy in the great outdoors-whether camping beneath the stars, tending to her garden, walking through nature trails, or quietly birdwatching. Her adventurous spirit also led her to the beaches she adored and the excitement of Atlantic City, where she loved playing the slot machines.
She retired from Prestige Blinds in 1998 after many dedicated years of service, and previously worked at Quinn & Boden, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues through her diligence and integrity.
A talented artist, Jessie expressed herself through beautiful drawings, paintings, and heartfelt poems, many of which she gifted to friends and family. Her love of culture and creativity extended to museums, concerts, and plays, where she found inspiration and delight.
She was an avid league bowler, a devoted fan of Rod Stewart and Willie Nelson, and a lifelong enthusiast of puzzles, crosswords, reading, and movies. Her culinary skills were unmatched-she was an excellent cook who enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and sharing meals with loved ones.
Family was the cornerstone of her life. She would move heaven and earth to care for those she loved, and her home was always filled with warmth-and often, the gentle presence of her beloved cats and her dog Belles. Her compassion extended far beyond her household; she was deeply committed to supporting charities that helped animals, wildlife, nature, the arts, and children, both locally and around the world.
A proud supporter of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, Jessie brought the same passion to sports as she did to every other aspect of her life.
Jessie was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Robert Sager of Pennsylvania, Ronald Chatles of New York, James Chatles of New Jersey, and Vivian Gaudet of Virginia; her mother, Martha Chatles of New Jersey; her long-time partner, James Stewart of New Jersey; and her cherished dog, Belles.
She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Tami Crim (Richie), Sean Gaudet, Kendall Crim, and Madison Crim of Virginia, Joshua Crim of Colorado, Caitlen Crim of Texas, Katie Kirkpatrick, Riley Kirkpatrick, Jessica Vincent, and Samantha Vincent of Virginia, Lisa Smith (JR) of Kentucky, Hope Sager, Mark Sager, and Luke Sager of Pennsylvania.
She is also survived by her cousins: Kathy Sager, Joanne Worthman, Janet Messick, and Ray Sager, all of New Jersey, along with numerous second and third cousins.
Jessie leaves behind many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty.
Her legacy of love, generosity, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private burial service will be held at a later date in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice of Virginia.
