Jessie Irene Roberson Stancil, 79, of Chesapeake, VA, departed this life while holding her daughter's hand on September 5, 2025.

Born in New Orleans, LA, on September 29, 1945, to Nathaniel and Ophelia Roberson, Jessie was the third of five children in the Roberson household.

Jessie graduated from Scotlandville Sr. High School in the Scotlandville section of Baton Rouge, LA, and went on to attend Southern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating from college, Jessie moved to Norfolk, VA, with her aunt and uncle, William and Mayola Archie, to find a job and experience life in a different part of the South. Jessie started her career as a Pre-School Teacher with the S.T.O.P. Organization/Head Start Program in 1971 and dedicated the next 40 years to the social and emotional development of the children who entered her classroom. Jessie was promoted to Area Coordinator in 2004 and continued to serve as a champion for the children until her retirement in 2011.

Jessie met the love of her life, Clyde Lee Stancil, Sr., in Norfolk, VA. Jessie married Clyde on July 19, 1977, and to this union, one daughter, Kristin Jeanette, was born, who was Jessie's pride and joy. Over a span of nearly 50 years, Jessie took pride in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother, making the Stancil house a home, filling it with love, food, and laughter.

In addition to her parents, Jessie was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Isaac and Lizzie B.
