Jakie F. Barbour-Brooks

Jakie Barbour-Brooks, a woman known for her boundless love and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025. She was 73.

Born in her beloved hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, on March 20, 1952, Jakie was the cherished daughter of the late Jeff and Sarah "Sadie" Barbour. Her infectious energy and compassion were felt by everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression on countless lives.

Jakie was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and continued her education at Norfolk State University, where she shared her beautiful voice as a dedicated member of the university choir. She was a faithful woman who worshipped at New Hope Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Norfolk, Virginia.

Jakie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James D. Brooks, and her stepson, Bishop Davis.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sisters, Edna Collins and Emma Owens, and her brother, Jeff Barbour. She also leaves a host of stepchildren who adored her: Benjamin, Sandra, Kristal, Bryant, Brunson, James, and Channon, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jakie Barbour-Brooks will be deeply missed, but her legacy of life, laughter, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
