Jettie Earl Padgett, known affectionately as Earl to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in his hometown of
Plant City, Florida. Born on February 28, 1941, to the late Walter Raleigh Padgett and Georgia K. Kilpatrick, Earl's life was one of dedication, service, and love.
Earl was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, he was a navigator for flying the R-B57 high altitude recon missions, skillfully flying bombers to protect the freedoms we hold dear. After his honorable military service, he continued to serve his community through his work at Walmart, where he was a familiar and friendly face for many years. Earl's entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate Southwind Models, a business that combined his professional acumen with his personal passion for model rail trains.
A man of faith, Earl was an active member of the Midway Baptist Church, where he found strength and fellowship. His commitment to his faith was evident in the way he lived his life, always embodying the principles of love and kindness that are so often spoken of within the church walls.
Earl's educational journey culminated in earning a bachelor's degree, which he used to not only advance his career but also to set an example for his children and grandchildren of the importance of lifelong learning.
As a big train enthusiast, Earl's love for model rail trains was more than a hobby; it was a way to connect with others, share stories, and pass on his knowledge to the next generation. His intricate and detailed models were a testament to his patience, precision, and creativity.
Earl was predeceased by his sister, Pearl Slaughter, and and his brothers, Paul Padgett and Carl Padgett. His legacy will live on through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Jean Padgett, his children, John Kelly Padgett (Billie) and Lorie Ann Thomassy (David). Earl's three granddaughters, Haley, Alyssa, and Olivia Thomassy, will miss their grandfather's gentle guidance and warm embraces.
Throughout his life, Earl received several awards that recognized his service, commitment, and kindness. These accolades were a reflection of the high esteem in which he was held by his peers and community.
Earl's life was one of unwavering love and kindness, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. Earl's journey on earth has come to a close, but the impact of his life will continue to resonate for generations to come.
