Jim Ragsdale Batot of Terrell, Texas, passed away at his home on April 22, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born to Lester and Sarah Batot on June 7, 1934, in Luling, Texas. Jim and his family moved to Falfurrias, Texas, the summer before he started second grade. After graduating high school in 1951, Jim attended Texas A&M University where he majored in Dairy Husbandry; upon graduation in 1955, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the United States Army.

After his discharge from the Army, Jim took up ranching and farming in South Texas but never gave up his true passion which was the game of golf. As an avid golfer of more than 50 years, one could usually find Jim playing on the weekends if he wasn’t watching his beloved Texas Aggie football team at Kyle Field. Jim also loved to travel whether it was a post high school adventure by truck to Canada with his buddies or a family vacation in the Winnebago to various National and State parks. He even managed to squeeze in a round of golf at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Course in California on two of these family vacations. Jim also collected model trains and inherited a love of stamp and coin collecting from his mother.

Jim married Barbara Jean Shelton in Falfurrias, Texas, on March 8, 1957, and raised four children together: Traci Magliolo, Leslie Davidson, Kelli Tims and Jim Ragsdale Batot, II. Jim leaves behind his 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren (Matthew Magliolo, Kelsey Pulliam, Hallie Ford, Reagan and Carter Tims, Ashley Batot, Jim R. Batot, III and Lauryn Stork), and 2 great-grandchildren (Berkley and Tristan Magliolo). He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years in 2008, and his only son in 2016.

A visitation for family and friends will take place Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home, 301 W. Nash, Terrell, Texas.
