[Obituary]

Elmer James “Jim” Bickell, 92, longtime resident of Perkins, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in Stillwater surrounded by his loving family. He was a dedicated lease operator for Sun Oil Company for many years. He was born on June 17, 1931, in Yale, Oklahoma to Elmer Warren and Ollie Inez (Harris) Bickell. Jim was a man known for his kind and loving nature, cherished by his family and friends.

Jim not only excelled in his professional career but also served his country with honor in the United States Navy for four years. He was a man of faith and was a charter member and ordained deacon of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Perkins. Jim found solace and comfort in attending church services and had a deep love for Jesus. At the young age of 20, Jim married Elsie Samples on January 8, 1952, in Dixie, Kentucky. For 57 years they built a legacy of love, faith, and family that will be cherished for many years to come by his precious children and grandchildren.

Among his passions were OSU sports and fishing. Jim’s love for sports brought him joy, and he found peace by the waterside engaging in his favorite pastime of fishing. His dedication to his hobbies reflected his vibrant persona and zest for life. Above all, he was most proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially the grands!

Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Bradley (Kent) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Rita Cavanaugh (Gale) of Perkins, Oklahoma; one son, Jimmy Bickell (JoAnn) of Holts Summit, Missouri; grandchildren, Michael Thurman (Tiffny), Jennifer Vicinus (Matt), Kimberly Light (Andrew), Bradley Bickell (Eleni), Craig Bickell, Kristi Bickell, Josh Tivis (Nicole), Chris Tivis, Lezlee Cavanaugh, Christi Weatherley (John), and Melanie Cavanaugh; great-grandchildren Ayden, Ruthie, Olivia, Tahlor, Teegin, Tucker, Jaxson, Dylan, Ethan, Gavin, Caden, Addison, Nicholas, Anastasia, Macie, Keagan, and Saniya; great-great-grandchild, Noah; as well as other extended family members and numerous friends. His legacy lives through the many lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie in 2009; his parents; and two sisters, Ella Jean Combs and Geraldine Pierson.

Jim was able to enjoy his favorite meal of frozen waffles and Diet Pepsi before passing. His warm presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
