George Chamblee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Inc on Feb. 16, 2026.
George Edward Chamblee Jr. passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on January 23, 1930 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to George Edward Chamblee Sr. and Jewel Ann (Brown)Chamblee.
His mother passed away when he was two years old and was raised by his Aunt Gladys Chamblee and Grandmother Minnie Chamblee. He grew up in Wewoka until he completed high school in 1947. George joined the Oklahoma National Guard and studied at the Army Engineering school in Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he honed his drafting and design skills. He continued his education at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, graduating with a technology degree in HVAC.
George married his high school sweetheart, Lou Ann Davis in 1953. They moved to Snyder Texas during the oil boom and stayed for over 40 years. George and Lou Ann raised three sons and after George's retirement they moved to Georgetown, Texas. Just shy of their 50th anniversary, Lou Ann passed in 2003. George remained in their family home with all their memories until he moved to an independent living home in Dallas, Texas near his son George in 2024.
George attended the Methodist Church throughout his life. He was active in the First United Methodist Church in Snyder, Texas where he often served as an usher.
George was a man of many talents and excelled with anything mechanical, electrical or construction related. He spent his teenage years working at his family's ice and refrigeration plant in Wewoka. He worked for a number of companies including Conoco in Oklahoma City and Standard Oil of Texas and eventually Chevron in Snyder, Texas. During his 37-year career with Chevron he filled many roles including drafting, design, construction and landman. His isopach and structure maps for the Canyon Reef oil field were among the earliest and most detailed maps and served as the basis for royalty and ownership allocation for many decades.
He enjoyed designing, building, and repairing. He excelled in woodworking and produced beautiful gun stocks and furniture. He was especially skilled at bringing new life to older pieces of furniture. From an early age, he enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed the time he could spend hunting, hiking, and playing golf.
