Jim Blake Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Meeks Mortuary & Crematory - Washington Street Chapel on Mar. 30, 2026.
May 13, 1957, this adventurer is released into the world, born to Francis and Leone Blake in Suffolk County Long Island, New York. His mind never stopped. He was quick with words, and would correct you if you misspoke.

Jim lived in his own world.…he was like Peter Pan. He never grew up, and was always a child at heart. He was never shy to let you know what he thought. He was a creator, explorer, inventor, and loved projects. Any kind of project. He loved making decorative boxes and would give one to anyone who admired them. Jim had two sisters who he dearly loved, Susan Konen, the older, and Patty Peterson, the middle child of three. They grew up in Northport, New York. Spending all their time together playing outside. Nature became their backbone from young to old. They would hike the Appalachian Trail every year, starting where they had left off the year prior. He loved all seasons, especially winter. He loved to hear the crunch of the snow under his boots. When he was six, he devised a way to open and close his bedroom door, and turn on/off his lights, all while lying in bed. And, that was in 1963!

I never had the privilege to meet this man until I was twenty, and he was twenty-two. I was Bart Fudge and he was Jim Blake. Within the first fifteen minutes of meeting, he took a ring off his finger, and gave it to me. I forgot to say he was impulsive too. We had so much fun together traveling, entertaining, working in different homes together, and just enjoying life. Anything he put his mind to he would work until it was perfect. He found out early when I wanted wallpaper installed that he could do it with ease. He started his own business installing wallpaper, working mostly in Muncie. But every job was done to perfection! That was Jim.

In his spare time when not working, you could find him in the woods building a fort out of whatever he found in nature. He ran a heavy duty extension cord to the fort so he could have power. He loved music of all kinds. "DESPERADO" was one of his favorite songs, and he even had a disco ball in the fort. Different family and friends loved to visit the fort. He would go down to the fort at night when I was going to bed, and spend the whole night in his own little world. Only to return when I was getting up for work. One night he heard a pack of coyotes that scared him, and he was back early. He loved all animals, and had many pets in his life.

His parents died young so my family became his. He truly was loved by so many. As we have gotten older, most of my family is gone as well. There are nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too many to mention, but all are loved in the same.

He was the love of my life! Our friendship and companionship lasted for forty seven years until he passed away on March 26, 2026. My heart is broken. I know we will see each other again! Goodbye dear friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street.

All arrangements are entrusted to The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory and online condolences may be left for the family at www.meeksmortuary.com
