Dr. James Edmund Corry Jr. (Jim) has gone to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 27th, 2025 at the age of 75.
He was born on November 5th, 1949 in Quincy, Florida to James Edmund Corry Sr. and Elizabeth "Betty" Hennessey Corry. He is survived by his wife, Chris Michelsen Corry, his three daughters, Jennifer Corry, Christie Le (Hiep), Amanda James (Stephen), his five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dallas, Vivian, Dorothy, and Jackson, and his three brothers, William (Bill) Corry Sr., John Allen (Jack) Corry Sr., and Stephen Corry.
After completing his studies at Southern College of Optometry, he moved to Lynn Haven, Florida where he opened his first practice. After a short time, he joined Dr. Grant Newberry at Newberry Eye Clinic where he practiced for many years before merging with partners to begin The Eye Center of North Florida in 1999. Jim practiced optometry for over 40 years. He truly loved his patients, and strived to serve them well. His patients and co-workers became like family to him.
His favorite places were in the air or on the water. If he wasn't in the office or at home, you could find him on a boat, in an airplane, or at the Miracle Strip RC Modelers air field. Jim proudly earned his pilot's license at the age of 50 and thoroughly enjoyed taking family and friends in the sky.
Jim took community service very seriously and was past president of the Lynn Haven Lion's Club. He also enjoyed serving as the president of the Miracle Strip RC Modelers Club.
Jim was passionate about bringing the history of his family's military ties to light. He co-authored the book "Soaring" with his wife's brother, Stanley Michelsen, highlighting the life and accomplishments of Lt. Commander William Merrill Corry Jr., his Great Uncle. He was just completing his second book, a historical novel, about William Merrill Corry Jr., when he passed away.
Jim was a loyal and loving friend to many. He helped several of them learn to fly model airplanes and become licensed aviators. His passion for his friends and family was evident in all that he did for others.
His family will miss him greatly, and all of his love, humor, and remarkable presence.
