Jim Hooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watson-Hunt Funeral Home - Perry on Feb. 21, 2024.
ELKO –
James Grover "Jim" Hooks passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry with Pastor Donny Swartzentruber officiating. A private inurnment will take place in Perry Memorial Gardens near Jim's parents.
Jim was born in Crestview, Florida, on July 20, 1943, to the late Marvin and Lummie Hooks. He was a 1961 graduate of Perry High School. Jim began his career in law enforcement as a trooper with Georgia State Patrol. After some time, he knew that investigative work would be his passion. After graduating from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agents School, he accepted a position as a Special Agent with the GBI. While Jim completed training and graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in 1975, he chose to remain close to home, and never worked for the FBI. He had a long and successful career with the GBI, eventually attaining the position of Captain Special Agent, overseeing the Perry regional GBI office. He retired after over twenty years of service.
Jim knew that he wanted to continue working in some capacity and received his real estate license with an emphasis on timberland. Being a lifelong outdoorsman and hunter, he began working for Georgia Timberlands, and eventually, Southeastern Hunting Services, and thoroughly enjoyed cruising timber and advising investors for several years. Jim claimed his final retirement after working for Landmark Realty, successfully completing over twenty years of work in the real estate industry.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ginger Hooks Simpson.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, David and Stephanie Hooks Tinkey; his grandchildren, Grace Tinkey, Faith Tinkey, and Christian Tinkey; his sister, Judy Hooks Waldrop; a nephew and two nieces and their families.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
