James Nolan Powers, 71, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away November 16, 2024 at his home. He was born on March 11, 1953 in Framingham, MA to the late Ernest Powers and Vesta (Mathis) Queen.
Jim served in the United States Army for 21 years. He worked for TEAM and Diverseco and retired in 2017 from Mt. Vernon Barge Service where he worked in human resources. Jim was a member of the Elks BPOE #277, American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5 and Vets Honoring Vets of Evansville. He was a past member of the Mt. Vernon Lions Club and the Posey Chapter of the Relay for Life. Jim enjoyed spending time at the cabin with his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting events. He was passionate about supporting and honoring all veterans.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Powers; and brothers, Ernie Powers and Arthur Queen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marion (Key) Powers; daughter, Heather Reese (Charlie); son, Jason Powers (Lucia); grandchildren, Hunter White, Adriana, Desirae and Deshaun Reese, Stefanie, Janin and Michael Powers; sisters, Patricia Nichols and Dorothy Bloksberg; brother-in-law, James Key; sister-in-law, Tina Grabert (Rodger); and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon. Military rites provided by Owen Dunn Post #5 at 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge #277 immediately following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elks #277, American Legion Post #5 or the NEWLIFE Rescue & Adoption.
