David James "Jim" Tarkalson, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 30, 2025, in Shelley, Idaho. Born on August 8, 1948, in Dillon, Montana, Jim lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

After graduating from Salmon High School in 1968, Jim proudly served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to duty and resilience. His military service was a defining chapter of his life and reflected his steadfast character and willingness to serve others.

A man known for his strong work ethic and acts of service, Jim approached every task with determination and integrity. Whether helping a neighbor or supporting his loved ones through challenges, he gave generously of his time and energy. His sense of humor brought lightness to those around him and left lasting memories for all who knew him.

Jim found great joy in the natural world. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished time spent outdoors. These pursuits were not only hobbies but also opportunities for reflection and connection with nature - moments that brought him peace throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reah Mildred Jolley; his parents, David Willis Tarkalson and Niota Louise Bolin; and his sisters, Sherry Lou Strauser Hokanson and Dawna Rae Tarkalson.

Jim leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy: sons David Dale Tarkalson (Marilyn) of Twin Falls, ID, Eric James Tarkalson (Ashley) of Salmon, ID, and Keith Aaron Tarkalson (Pam) of Las Vegas, NV; daughters Becky Jo Hone (Heath) of Shelley, ID and Megan Louise Welch (Mike) of Frisco, TX; twenty-four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

May the memory of David James "Jim" Tarkalson bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and inspiration to those who remember the strength of his spirit. Family visitation will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 91 ID-Hwy 28, Salmon, Idaho. Services will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Salmon Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
