KEOTA-James A. “Jim” Tinnes, age 61, of Keota, died Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Jim was born February 29, 1964, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dennis and Arlena (Sharon) Tinnes and graduated from Keota High School in 1982. On February 14, 1982, he married Kimberly Malin in Ottumwa. The couple lived in Keota, where Jim owned and operated Jim Tinnes Trucking. He was a founder and very active member of the Good Neighbor Fellowship, where he led the Grief Share support group. In his younger years, Jim volunteered for the Keota Fire Department for 13 years and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Master. Jim also served on the Library Board, where he was Vice President since 2020 and the Keota School Board since 2015. He enjoyed his grandchildren, camping at the farm, riding motorcycles, boating, cruising, 4-wheeling and his daily Ranger rides with Izzy and Willow.
Survivors include his wife: Kim of Keota; son: Jason (Jo) Tinnes of Washington; daughter: Jessica (Nick) Mahan of Keota; six grandchildren: Gabriel Tinnes, Nora Tinnes, Emily Mahan, Brian Mahan, Jaxon Tinnes and Levi Tinnes; two sisters: Patty Tinnes of Keota and Paula Orr of Durant; nephew: Ben Orr; niece: Brittany Lane; mother-in-law: Wilda Malin of Parnell and his two puppies: Izzy and Willow. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Pearl Lane and father-in-law: Jerry Malin.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Keota High School, with Pastor Doug Tinnes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the school.
