Taylor Funeral Service & Crematory - HotchkissJimmie L. Collins passed away on July 28, 2025 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, CO. He was 88 years old.
Jim was born on May 2, 1937 in the Smith Fork Canyon to Irene Anderson and John Collins. He grew up in the Crawford area and graduated from Crawford High School in 1955.
Jim served our country as a mechanic for the US Army from 1957-1958 and served in the reserves until 1962.
Jim met his lovely bride, Della Harris, and they were married on June 14, 1959. They celebrated 66 years together.
Jim and Della set up a homestead in Delta County making Hotchkiss their home. Jim has been a resident of the Western Slope for 88 years. Jim was a man of many talents. He worked as a logger, miner of coal and uranium, farmer and heavy equipment operator. In his free time, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family. He had a passion for collecting firearms and old Western knives as well as doing his own reloading.
Some of the most memorable things were his tall fish tales, crazy hunting adventures and knowing he always had a cold beer in the fridge when you stopped by for a visit.
Jimmie L. Collins is survived by his wife, Della Collins of Hotchkiss, CO; His son Jerry and Vicki Collins of Eden, UT; His son Allen and Tish Collins of Palisade, CO and His daughter, Tracy Camacho of Hotchkiss, CO and His sister Pat Noble of Huachuca City, AZ. Jim had 7 grandchildren (Alicia, Adam, Mitchell, Nathan, Cory, Brandon and Tyler) and 8 great-grandchildren (Kailynn, Mikenna, Hector, Lassen, Charlie, Skye, Cadence, Theo)
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Collins, his brothers Edgar and Wayne Collins and son-in-law, Hector Camacho.
Services will be held on August 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Crawford Town Hall in Crawford, CO followed by food and refreshments.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that you gather your loved ones and enjoy a Colorado kool-aid in honor of Jim.
