Jimmie Delk Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Jimmie Reed Delk passed away peacefully at his home the morning of November 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. Jimmie began his courageous journey with cancer in January of 2022. What could have been a very short fight became an almost four-year battle where we saw him turn his determination into a motto, "Give it all you got!" and he did that every day. He was very vocal about talking to the "Big Man" upstairs because he knew He was in charge and got peace from that.
He was born in Jamestown, Tennessee on Sept 21, 1943, the son of Rockford and Lena Delk. In 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army at 18 and served his country until 1964. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Muncie and was drawn to the asphalt and roadway business. He started at the bottom, shoveling asphalt, running pavers, and supervising crews. He eventually worked his way up to the position of Sr.Vice President of Operations at Milestone Contractors, he is the true definition of building a life through experience. After retirement he began the stage of his life that he had worked so hard for. He spent a lot more time with his family, played more golf, and all "that good stuff" that filled his days with immeasurable joy.
The pride and love that Jimmie felt for his family was evident. He was the "Champion" of his family. He left his family with a lasting legacy of how to help people, value people, and how to stay grounded. Most importantly he taught us how to circle our family with strong, protective arms, which he did until his very last breath.
Jimmie is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Bryon) Mercer, Kim (Todd) Pope, Kristi (Scott) Maupin, and Marsha (Timothy) Dillard; grandchildren, Collin (Katie) Mercer, Noah (Destiny) Mercer, Marissa Mercer, Bailey (Travis) Grubb, Mallory Martinez, Macy Bonshire, Alexus Pope, Alaina Wiggins, Lindsay Southard, Tiffany (Brandon) Robertson, and Bocephus Beaty; twenty great-grandchildren; siblings, Johnny (Margaret) Delk, Janet Hood, and Linda Smith; and a large extended family that he loved very much.
Jimme was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Willie, Faye, Clata, Judd, Roxie, and Buster; grandson, Christopher Masiongale.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at The Meeks Mortuary and Cremation, Washington Street Chapel.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, December 1, 2025, at The Meeks Mortuary and Cremation, Washington Street Chapel. Cremation will follow.
What a life well lived and served Dad. We've got you with us every day and we'll take it from here and will continue to make you proud. Your love and all you taught us, by your example, will carry us from day to day. We will see you again one day, healthy and whole.
