MUNCIE- Nancy Eleanor (Janney) Atkins, 89, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the Greenfield Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 8, 1936 in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of Russell and Edna Janney. Nancy graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1954 and from Indiana University in 1958 where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
Nancy was a kindergarten teacher for a few years before moving into the business world as a professional secretary. She raised her sons in Carmel where she helped run the youth bowling league at Nora Bowl and attended almost all of their many sporting events. Later, after passing her exam, Nancy became a successful real estate agent in the Indianapolis area. She moved back to Muncie in 1997 and lived there until her final illness. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing the piano, playing euchre, enjoying her family, loving her cat, and collecting cardinals. She was an avid fan of Indiana University sports, Indiana Pacers, and the Cincinnati Reds.
Nancy is survived by two sons, Michael (Kristina) Hole of Orleans, and Bruce Hole of Indianapolis, two grandchildren, Alex (Amy) Hole of McCordsville, and Adam (Felica) Hole of Paoli. She adored her four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Cailyn, Marcus, and Anthony. She is survived by one brother, David (Freda) Janney of Coral Gables, Florida. She is also survived by a niece, Diann (Harold) Fischer of Herkimer, New York, niece Pam (Michael) Tennant of Noblesville, and nephew Philip Crain of Noblesville.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Atkins, a sister, Phyllis Crain, a brother, Richard Janney, and nephew, Alan Janney.
