MUNCIE – Wanda L. Concannon
Surrounded by her loving family, Wanda L. Concannon passed away in peace on November 17, 2025. Her family shares this news with both sadness and fond memories.
Born on May 6, 1936 to parents Edward and Alta Welch, Wanda was the youngest and last survivor of five children. Wanda was a lifelong resident of Muncie, Indiana and was a proud graduate of Muncie Central High School. She was married to J. Michael Concannon in 1957 and together they had three children: Jill DeBatty, Mike Concannon and Andy Concannon.
In 1959 Wanda, along with her husband and father-in-law, started Concannon's Pastry Shop. For nearly forty years, Wanda was active in the business both serving customers and managing the company's books. She took great pride in the business's popularity and the delicious treats it provided. And she took joy in the frequency that strangers would approach her to talk about their favorite pastries from Concannon's.
Despite the many hours she put into the business, her focus was always on family. Her children and grandchildren are thankful for all the time she spent with them, and have fond memories of family gatherings, which always included a competitive game or two. Thinking back, it was the one-on-one time that was even more special to them.
Once her children were grown, Wanda and her husband spent their weekends at classic car shows where they would display their fully restored 1962 and 1964 Thunderbirds. While the cars were her husband's hobby, for Wanda it was a chance to make new friends.
Following the death of her husband in 2001, Wanda moved to the Willow Lakes neighborhood in Muncie where she had many great friends during her retirement years, including her special friends, Gene Amlin (deceased) and Anne Nahvi.
Wanda's greatest pride was her family and friends. She excelled at being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Wanda cared deeply about others and wanted all to be happy. Her quick, yet friendly wit would often catch friends and family off guard, but it was always delivered with a friendly smile.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill (Brian) DeBatty, son, Mike (Lindsay Walker) Concannon and son, Andy (Leslie) Concannon, and was a devoted grandmother to Nick DeBatty, Lindsey (Tyler) Wallen, Michelle (Logan) Alley, Marc (Shelby) Concannon, Mitchell (Taylor) Concannon, Justin (Kelsee) Concannon and Ryan (Kelly) Concannon. She had seven great-grandchildren: Atreyu DeBatty, Teddy Wallen, Wyatt Alley, Scarlett Alley, Ella Concannon, Max Concannon and Palmer Concannon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Michael Concannon, parents, Edward and Alta Welch, and siblings Jane (Clarence) Evans, Edward (Helen) Welch, Bob (Pat) Welch and Peter (Barbara) Welch.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Private burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
