Barbara Jean (BJ) Metz, 75
Mother, Aunt, Sister, Mother-in-law, friend and neighbor, Barb was one of the finest and most admired women you'd ever meet, one who touched many lives. The middle child of five siblings, she was born May 7th, 1950 in the Bronx, N.Y., and grew up Fairfield, Conn. After moving to Bloomington, she earned an associate's degree in Culinary Arts from Indiana University, and later become the head chef of Bryan House, serving under multiple IU presidents. She helped start Middleway house which continues to help those in need today. She had a love for animals and adopted older, less-adoptable dogs. Her passion was gardening and she won Best Garden in 2016 from the Bloomington Garden Walk. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters Jennifer (David), Jessica (Buddy), sister Carole Ann Metz, nephews Richard and Rob Metz, grandchildren, Cody, Zachary, and Hannah Lane. She was preceded in death by: father William and mother Elizabeth Metz; brothers, William Metz and Robert Metz, and sister Maribeth Metz.
A Celebration of Life is planned on May 9, 2026 in her beautiful garden.
