Mr. Phipps was born March 10, 1933 in Scranton, SC to the late Jimmie and Ruth Flowers Phipps. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Jimmie enjoyed growing orchids, stained glass and loved to travel. He was a member of Christ Community Church and retired as an Architect from Odell Associates in Charlotte, NC and designed and built the family residence in Montreat.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Lyerly and grandson, Bryant Kibler.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Clary Phipps; son, Roddey Phipps and wife, Kelly; daughter, Rebecca Lea Blankenship; sister, Marjorie Tucker; granddaughters, Elise Warren and Sally and Caroline Phipps and great grandchildren, Abigail and Tucker Warren.
Services will be held at a later date.
