James Bradley “Jimmy” Davenport, age 52, passed away on February 15th, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Jimmy was born on April 23rd, 1971, to James and Sherry (Hircock) Davenport, in North Platte, Nebraska. He spent his childhood on the family farm. From a young age, Jimmy had a love for the outdoors. He could frequently be found sitting on a hill in the pasture with the family dog “Sissy”. He had a lifelong compassion for animals and never hesitated to rescue a crippled cat.

Many hours were spent fishing with his dad and older brothers, a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life. His older sisters were thrilled to have a little brother who they taught to ride horses at a very young age. He participated in 4H with his horse “Dolly”. When he was little, he acquired the nickname “Thumper” when his older siblings encouraged him to hop around the yard like the bunnies we had as pets at Easter.

He attended Arnold Public Schools where he played football, wrestling, and graduated in 1989.  He was also a member of the Boy Scouts for many years.   Jimmy spent most of his life in Arnold and a brief time in Omaha. He was a flooring specialist and a perfectionist and took great pride in his trade. There wasn’t a job he couldn’t tackle, and his beautiful work is apparent in Arnold Public Schools, St Agnes Catholic Church, a large handicap bathroom for his mother, and many more homes and businesses in the area.

On July 24, 2009, the pride and joy of his life was born, Austin Michael. He was passionate about doing activities with his son, such as fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, and going to the Nuggets game, and often included Austin’s friends. Jimmy was so proud of Austin’s accomplishments of being on the honor roll and winning the spelling bee and following in his footsteps playing football and wrestling.

He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews taking them boating, tubing, and seining for minnows in the river.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents James and Sherry, grandparents Darrel and Freda Hircock, Orville (Mary) Davenport, and Lola Davenport, brother Michael Davenport, sister JoDee Kimball and nephew Andrew Claymon. Left to cherish the memories he gave us are his son Austin, sisters Julie (Randy) Bailar, Jeani Davenport, Joni Claymon, Jennifer (Jeff) Drey, Jacque (Ryan) Porter, brother Dan Davenport, aunts Lavilla Estabrooks and Deanna Morgan and Austin’s mother Nikki Harter and Austin's sister Angelina, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorials in Jimmy’s honor may be sent to: The Jimmy Davenport Memorial fund at Pinnacle Bank in Arnold.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Arnold Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Arnold Community Center. All are welcome. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com
