Jimmy George Obituary

Jimmy D. George, 77, of Kansas City, MO, took his final flight on October 22, 2025. Born on a leap day, Jimmy always joked he was younger than most—just 19 birthdays! He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep passion for airplanes.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Joyce, who was his co-pilot in life. Together they raised two wonderful children: Tracy (Jennifer) and Tammy. He was a proud grandfather to Alex (Alexandria), Andrew (Kelly), Meghan (Marcus), Matthew (Ana), Morganne (Austin), and Madissen (David), and step-grandfather to Tanner and Emily (Blake), and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Jeanie and Regina, and his cherished pets Molly and Cassie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor George (1989) and Ruth Jean George (2019), and his beloved dog Lille Grace (2025), who surely greeted him with a wagging tail.

Jimmy’s career in aviation spanned nearly 50 years, beginning humbly as a janitor and soaring to the role of project manager. He worked for TWA/AA from May 1965 to June 2005, and continued with smaller airlines until his retirement in 2020. Even in retirement, Jimmy’s love for airplanes never waned—he spent countless hours building intricate airplane models and tinkering with puzzles, wooden creations, and K'Nex masterpieces.

He was also known for his spirited golf games (where the score didn’t matter as much as the laughs), and his “race car” driving style that kept passengers on their toes. Jimmy had a knack for turning everyday moments into adventures and was always up for a good joke or a spontaneous project.

Jimmy and Joyce have been part of the Northland Cathedral family for over 35 years, where they found joy and purpose singing in the choir. Through years of shared music and ministry, they formed deep and lasting friendships that became a cherished part of their lives.

A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery, located at 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO 64155, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
