Jimmy Dwayne Griffin passed away on March 21, 2025 at the age of 59.
Jim was born to Edna Mae Griffin in Asheville in 1965 and grew up in Marshall, NC. After graduating from high school, he served in the US Army and the Air National Guard. He worked his way through school, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of North Carolina and a Master's Degree from Georgia Tech.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Mae Griffin. He is survived by his sons, Michael and Alexander Griffin and their mother Julie Griffin; brother Kenny Griffin, his wife Tangela and daughter Julia; and his partner Emily Chen.
Jim was a successful entrepreneur, adventurer and world traveler. Whether hiking in the woods in NC, climbing Machu Picchu or exploring new cultures or eating unusual foods, Jim rarely turned away from learning new things or seeing new places, often sharing those lessons and adventures with his family.
By far, Jim's greatest treasure and joy in life was found in spending time with his boys, Michael and Alex. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, hiking, hunting and traveling with them. He taught them the value of simple things in life, like a hike in the quiet of the woods and spiritual warmth of home cooked food. He also taught them the value of hard work and resilience to overcome challenges. His favorite saying was, "If you're gonna be stupid. You better be tough." He taught them to be open to new adventures and to know their worth. He was immensely proud of Michael and Alex and shared his love for them in many, many ways. They are left to treasure their fond memories and will forever miss their Dad.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home.
