After he received his honorable discharge from the military, he then enjoyed a distinguished career as a Union man, working for General Motors as an assembly and committee representative for over thirty years. His commitment to his job and coworkers was exemplary and earned him the respect of many.

In addition to his professional life, Jimmy was a family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandsons, Lee and Nicholas. He shared countless memories with them, and his strong family values were at the heart of his character. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Alana Kent, MD and her husband H. Lee Kent, Jr.; his son, Jimmy Lee Knight, Jr., and his wife Vickie; his brother Johnny Knight; and his sisters Janice Bradford and Joann Nipper. He was also a proud grandfather to Nicholas James Kent and Harvey Lee Kent, III.

Jimmy's interests extended beyond his family. He was an avid supporter of University of Georgia Football and found joy in watching classic westerns, including Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and Cheyenne. His love for entertainment also included participating in the excitement of the TV game show Family Feud. An avid fisherman, Jimmy found tranquility, particularly while sitting on his porch and watching the world go by.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Elaine Harper Knight who was the love of his life; parents, Thelma and Jim Knight; his daughter, Lisa Knight; and his brother, James Knight. Their memories, along with Jimmy's warmth and kindness, will continue to be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jimmy Lee Knight, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to family and community. His warmth and spirit will be profoundly missed.
