Jimmy Martinez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Volk Leber Funeral Home - Teaneck on Dec. 2, 2025.
Jimmy Martinez, of Teaneck, NJ passed away on November 28, 2025 at 80 years old. He was born on January 23, 1945 in the beautiful city of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico to Jose Martinez and Luz Maria Rodriguez. He grew up with his older brother Jose Luis Martinez and younger brother Wilson Martinez, traveling between New York City and Puerto Rico often.

During his high school years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to fight in the Vietnam War. He would go on to share stories about his time in Vietnam throughout the rest of his life as a very proud veteran.

He worked as a mental health therapy aide at Manhattan Psychiatric Center, where he was extremely loved by staff and patients alike. He retired after 30 years of working for the NY State Office of Mental Health. He went on to have a second career as a school aide for the NY State Board of Ed in high schools in Queens and the Bronx. He finally retired for good in 2017 and spent the following years enjoying travels with his wife and being around family.

Jimmy is survived by his children Jimmy Martinez, Ivette Martinez Vargas, Lisandro Martinez, Javier Martinez, James Martinez, Katrina Martinez, Victor Martinez, and Christopher Martinez. Jimmy is survived by many grandchildren including Elias Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Joshua Sanchez, Ashly Sanchez, AJ Vargas, Jaynesse Martinez, Ivelisse Vargas, Johan Martinez, Kaelynn Vargas, Arianna Martinez, Liam Martinez, Kavi Lavergne Martinez, and his great grandchildren Nadine Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Hope Martinez, and Grace Martinez. He is also survived by his loving wife Joyce Martinez, the mother of his youngest 4 children, and his good friend Myrta Lopez the mother of his 2 oldest children, as well as his younger brother Wilson Martinez.

His bright, playful presence will be missed dearly by his family, friends, coworkers, and people who knew him around the neighborhood.
