Jimmy Newsome Obituary
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.
Jimmy Darrell Newsome, 67 of Dingess, WV, finished his earthly race and entered into his Heavenly home on August 5, 2024 at his residence.
He was born December 10, 1956 in Logan, WV to James Newsome of Dingess, WV and the late Rosella Newsome.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Allen Newsome, and Gregory Thomas Newsome, sister, Jennifer Jeffrey, sister-in-law, Pamela Newsome and brother-in-law, Marion Canterbury Jr.
Darrell worked most of his life in construction as owner of D&N Construction Company and was also the Pastor of Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church, in which he loved and cherished. He enjoyed going to church and loved preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He worked tirelessly in the community giving and helping others. He was a faithful servant. Darrell has a special love of antique cars, especially camaros, and loved playing golf with his brothers Jeff and Jason as well as his friends, but especially enjoyed playing with his grandson Cooper.
In addition to his father, those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, whom he loved dearly, Kelsie Newsome; his loving daughter, Christina (Jonathan) Sparks; his precious grandson, Cooper Logan Sparks; brothers, Virgil Newsome, Jeffrey (Vickie) Newsome, and Jason (Stacy) Newsome; sisters, Stephanie Cordray, Robin (Ermal) Chaffin, Kathy (Mark) Ferry, and Nikki Ardman; sisters-in-law, Ella (John) Dorgan, Pat Setser, Sadie (June Bug) Vance, Mary Newsome along with one aunt Nellie (Ernest) Hensley, uncles, Dave and Kenneth Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, who have been a constant and amazing help and support throughout this journey, and we are forever grateful.
Thank you to Ermal and Robin Chaffin, Virgil Newsome, Grey Taylor, Phillip Stroud and Jeffrey Workman for always being there when needed from house calls, making mashed potatoes and peanut butter pie, and driving to Charleston for treatments and care. Thank you to our church family, friends and loved ones for all their prayers, calls and visits. We are grateful to each and every one of you. A special thank you to Uncle David Bryant for the numerous trips from Columbus, OH to visit with Darrell.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church at Dingess, funeral following at 1:00pm with Rev. Sid Moore, Rev. Elbert Collins Jr and Rev. Dave McCloud officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.
