Jimmy Mira Paguerigan, of
Sacramento, CA, peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 61 on May 18, 2025, after a four-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Jimmy was born on May 6, 1964, in Tamuning, Guam. "Ondoy" (Doy), as his family called him, was the youngest of 5 siblings. He lived in Guam during his childhood years, but moved to
Sacramento, CA in 1981 and attended Luther Burbank High School (LBHS). During his high school years, he met the love of his life, Shirley. They dated for some years, ultimately married in June 1990, and continued to build their lives together for almost 35 years.
He was employed by the State of California and eventually retired after 34 years of service in October 2021. Jimmy began his civil service career as a key data operator, advanced to working in the mailroom shipping & receiving sector, and promoted to digital print operator. His commitment to excellence was evident in his pride and his meticulous approach to his work. So much so that at times, he worked after hours to ensure critical mailings or packages were delivered to the post office, if they missed the final mail collection time for the day.
Beyond work, Jimmy was a very devoted 49er fan who proudly sported the "scarlet red" team color, even when the Niner's were on a losing streak. He especially enjoyed watching football while participating in healthy bantering with Shirley's cousins from the East Coast, who cheered on rival teams against the Niner's. Texting back and forth, FaceTiming or calling one another several times during a game to "talk smack" was welcomed and Jimmy loved every minute of it!
He also loved collecting Star Trek, Hot Wheels, Marvel memorabilia, as well as Hawaiian shirts. There wasn't a Hawaiian shirt at the Tommy Bahama store that Jimmy didn't like! Before retiring, every Friday at work was "Aloha Friday" for him, and he wore shirts from his collection with style & charisma.
Coffee was one of Jimmy's guilty pleasures. He created his own "mini coffee bar" at home and delighted in making coffee for whoever wanted to partake in a cup of joe. Despite having a readily available source of caffeine, Jimmy and his brothers-in-law still frequented Starbucks, using these outings as opportunities to enjoy brotherly love bonding time.
Deeply devoted to the Lord, Jimmy actively participated in Recollections in Christianity (REC) after attending a retreat with Shirley in 1989, REC 9. He served in various roles, including security and kitchen staff, even rising before dawn to prepare breakfast for REC candidates and staff.
Even in the face of ALS, Jimmy demonstrated remarkable courage, and his selfless act of donating organs and tissues made him a hero whose impact will be felt through the numerous lives he saved. In life, he helped others, and his legacy continues as he ascends to God's kingdom. He will remain in our hearts forever.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Alfredo B. Paguerigan & Ricarda M. Paguerigan, sister Corazon G. Calapine and brothers-in-law Eutique Calapine and Rodney Priest. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Berdal Paguerigan, brother Godofredo M. Gomez (Helen), sister Maria Elisa G. Priest, sister Maria Fe G. Gillins (Marc), nieces & nephews, Diane Untalan (Russel), Freddie Gomez Jr. (Debbie), Jake Calapine(Emelie), Tonja Priest, Shane Gillins(Tanya) and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
