I met Jimmy through neighboring volunteer fire departments that we belonged to and working on the fire department radios for them, later to learn he was a fellow ham operator and grew closer together from that, helping each other with projects.
We became such close friends over the years that I asked Jimmy to be best man at my wedding.
Another friend got me to leave the fire department and get into law enforcement with him and join the Harris County Sheriff reserve with him.
I tried to get Jimmy to join also, but at the time, his parents did not want him to do it.
Between his and my work and family we did not cross paths as much, but kept in touch through Ham radio.
When Jimmy finally did join the department, one of his first ride along as a rookie was with my partner and I.
I left Harris County Sheriff and transferred to Montgomery County Constable Department to be closer to home to work as my main job was keeping me busy at the time and with kids growing up.
We kept in touch through Ham radio but Jimmy was working most of his spare time for Harris County in his area.
We lost track of each other until another friend that knew Jimmy told me that he had cancer and not very long to live.
I went to see Jimmy at his house on a Thursday evening and spent an hour or so with him but left as other people were there also and planned to come back Sunday evening to spend some time together alone to talk, but Jimmy passed on Saturday night.
I am mad at you for not telling me of your condition sooner so we could have had some time together before leaving for your heavenly home.
R.I.P. brother and keep heaven safe .....until we meet again !!!
Mike
