Jimmy Woods

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Jimmy Woods, a beloved brother, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and proud Navy veteran, who passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born on July 9th, 1945 in Rayville, LA, Jimmy lived a life marked by love, strength, and compassion. After graduating high school, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. He served with honor and integrity, embodying the values of duty, loyalty, and courage throughout his military career. His time in the Navy allowed him to travel the world on the S.S. Enterprise and not only shaped him as a man but inspired those around him with stories of perseverance and brotherhood.
After his service, Jimmy dedicated himself fully to his family, faith, and community. He was a devoted brother to Judy Spain and eight other brothers and sisters, a loving father to Cathy and Betsy, and a doting grandfather to Malcolm, Nate, and Oliver. He was the heart of the family, always ready with a warm hug, sage advice, or a well-timed joke to lift everyone's spirits.
Jimmy was known for his deep kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and the quiet strength that comforted those around him. Whether water skiing, playing tennis, fixing things around the house, or sharing his wisdom at the dinner table, he was always present and always giving.
He is survived by his sister Judy Spain, daughters Catherine Lopez and Betsy Woods, and grandsons Malcolm Woods-Smith, Nate Woods-Smith, and Oliver Lopez and preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Annie Woods, and eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral service honoring Jimmy's life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at Northside Baptist Church in Texas City, TX. Following the service graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:15pm at the Houston National Cemetery in recognition of his service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Northside Baptist Church, in his memory.
Jimmy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the life he lived, and the example he set.
